• Pres. Harry Truman officially ends hostilities in WWII
• TTE (later know as Sony) is founded with 20 employees
• The first Tupperware is sold in stores
• San Francisco 49ers football team formed
• Bikinis go on sale in Paris, France
• 18th Academy Awards
• Ben Hogan won the PGA Championship
